Telecom Lead Asia: Business Support Systems (BSS) provider Subex has won a contract from Almadar, a telecom operator in Libya, to provide its ROC Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management solutions.
Jamal Hegag, chairman, Almadar, said: “We are taking a fresh approach to our business proposition and it was important to build the right ecosystem. As a first step, we have chosen the ROC Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management solutions from Subex.”
In November 2012, Almadar signed an agreement to provide a 3G services in Libya. The company will provide data speeds of up to 42 Mbps using HSPA+ technology, which will allow better internet access, including watching TV on mobile phones.
Almadar, the largest operator in Libya, has over two thirds of the country’s 6 million population as its customers.
Libya is undergoing several telecom regulatory changes. Recently, Libya has put on hold its tender to offer rights to manage Libyan Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Co. (LIPTIC) that owns two mobile operators, Almadar and Libyana, along with Libya’s main internet provider. Etisalat, Saudi Telecom and Ooredoo (Qatar Telecom) have expressed interest in Libya’s projects.
