Telecom Lead India: Nokia
announced the launch of real-time traffic update for its smartphone users
in Mumbai and Delhi.
Traffic feature will deliver comprehensive, real-time
traffic information to more than 26 million people in two of the country’s
busiest cities.
Nokia said the traffic update is available to users on
Symbian smartphones on Nokia Drive, and on Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710
on Nokia Maps. Upon download the user can study the traffic situation in real
time and subsequently plan a route.
Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic Pro real-time traffic service, the
traffic feature offers superior coverage with detailed information on traffic
speeds on motorways, main and secondary roads to enable accurate estimated
arrival times helping consumers save time, fuel and frustration.
NAVTEQ Traffic Pro aggregates and analyses traffic data from
several sources, including the world’s largest compilation of both commercial
and consumer probe data, the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network,
event-based data collected from government sources, and extensive historical
traffic records.
“We aim to empower people, via location-aware technology,
sensor-rich devices, and the internet, to explore and enjoy the increasingly
hybridised physical and digital world around us. Our aim is to introduce new
services such as traffic update, which will make consumers early adopters of the
latest technology for a stress free and productive life,” said Vipul Mehrotra,
director, Smart devices, Nokia India.
Nokia Location Services will also develop platform services
for device manufacturers, application developers, internet services providers,
merchants, and advertisers.
“The launch of this traffic feature on Nokia smartphones
reflects the ever-growing consumer appetite for more interactive location based
services beyond traditional turn-by-turn navigation,” said Rajat Tandon,
director Sales, Nokia, Location & Commerce.
