Matrix cuts telecom roaming rates up to 50% following EU policy

Telecom Lead India: Matrix Cellular, a provider of
international telecommunication services, has reduced international roaming
rates up to 50 percent this summer.

Matrix Cellular said people travelling to U.K. this summer
can now call back home for Re 1 per minute. They can also receive free incoming
calls.

The rate cut is happening at a time when the European Union
decided to slash mobile roaming rates.

European Union reaches pact to lower mobile roaming fees

The European Commission, European lawmakers and governments
have agreed to reduce mobile roaming fees. The deal is expected to be approved
by the European Parliament in May and would take effect in July. The reform
will allow consumers to pay less for calls, texts and mobile Web services when
travelling abroad, in a measure that could hit telecom industry profits.
Vodafone supported the deal and creation of a more competitive market for
roaming instead of price caps even as some of its peers lobbied against it.

Mobile operators to loss $1.2 billion in roaming revenue in
2012 due to silent roamers

Recently, Syniverse said mobile operators around the
world will miss out on more than $1.2 billion in additional roaming revenues in
2012 due to the prevalence of silent roamers. The company calculated that more
than 50 percent of silent roamers do not use voice services and up to 70
percent do not use data services. Acts by silent roamers represent a total lost
opportunity of more than $1.2 billion to mobile operators in 2012.

According to Matrix Cellular, smartphones user can activate
data services on their handheld at 1/10th the cost of International data
roaming charges.

With the new Global Blackberry SIM, customers can get
unlimited access to emails, browsing, BBM, Facebook and Twitter in more than
150 countries at 50 pounds.

“Matrix Cellular is committed to offering its customers
best-in-value products and services whenever they’re traveling abroad. With the
onset of the holiday season, these tariff reductions spell huge benefits for
holidaymakers and business visitors  as customers are now able to save a great
deal of money as compared to any other option,” said Arun Batra, CEO,
Matrix.
