By Telecom Lead Team: Qualcomm will expand the usage of
Gobi modem, currently used for 3G/4G-LTE modems for notebooks and tablets, to
cover the complete modem product portfolio, including the MDM chipset family.
Qualcomm’s modems provide 3G/4G-LTE connectivity to
consumer and enterprise devices and are already leading solutions for
smartphones, tablets and ultra-portable notebooks, data cards, mobile routers,
USB dongles, customer premises equipment (CPEs) and M2M / Internet of
Everything (IoE) applications.
In 2011, Qualcomm shipped more than 250 million modem
chipsets.
“This is an exciting time for wireless
technology. It is migrating into new application spaces, such as M2M and
IoE, as well as into developing countries where it offers social, economic and
education benefits by providing high-speed wireless Internet access where build
out of wired infrastructure is not feasible,” said Cristiano Amon, senior
vice president of product management, Qualcomm.
Qualcomm offers a broad roadmap of Gobi modem chipsets
for various device uses, including chipsets for 3G, 4G, 4G-LTE and now 4G
LTE-Advanced.
