Merritt as senior vice president and general manager of enterprise servers,
storage and networking (ESSN) sales in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).
Jim was working with Dell as a president of
Global Sales with responsibilities for both direct and indirect sales to
corporate customers.
HP is hiring Jim at a time when HP is
facing pressure in enterprise business. HP’s worldwide server shipment share
was 29.8 percent in the first quarter of 2011, representing a 1.8 percent drop
in share from the same quarter in 2010.
He will report to Dave Donatelli,
executive vice president and general manager of ESSN and Technology Services.
“With APJ organizations increasingly
leading the way to cloud computing and other service-driven IT models, they
need an innovative and experienced technology partner to help them drive their
businesses forward. Jim brings an exceptional talent for understanding
customers’ needs, particularly as they apply in the dynamic APJ marketplace,”
said Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager of ESSN
and Technology Services of HP.
He spent the last 13 years with Dell in
global and regional sales roles, including four years within Asia Pacific and
Japan region.
Prior to Dell, Merritt spent more than 15
years with IBM in a variety of leadership roles, including vice president of
Worldwide Marketing and Strategy for the server group.
Revenue Marketshare of HP in Server Market Dips
Global server shipments grew 9 percent.
Revenue increased 17 percent in the first quarter of 2011, according to
Gartner.
All the top five global vendors except
Fujitsu had revenue increases for the first quarter of 2011. HP was the market
leader, based on worldwide server revenue. The company posted more than $3.8
billion in worldwide server vendor revenue for a total share of 30.2 percent
for the first quarter of 2011. This share was down 1.2 percent year-on-year.
In server shipments, HP remained the
worldwide leader in the first quarter of 2011 with a year-on-year shipment
increase of 2.3 percent for the quarter. This growth was driven by increases
produced from HP’s ProLiant brand. HP’s worldwide server shipment share was
29.8 percent, representing a 1.8 percent drop in share from the same quarter in
2010.
Of the top five vendors in server shipments
worldwide, HP and IBM posted year-on-year increases in units for the first
quarter.
John Visentin joins HP as executive vice president of
Enterprise Services
HP announced that it has appointed John
Visentin as executive vice president of HP Enterprise Services. Visentin will
be responsible for driving growth in HP Enterprise Services, which delivers
technology infrastructure, applications and business services. He will become a
member of the company’s Executive Council, reporting directly to Leo Apotheker,
HP president and chief executive officer. Visentin previously led HP Enterprise
Services for the Americas. He replaces Tom Iannotti, who announced his
retirement earlier this year.
