Ericsson to provide smart meter managed services toLandis+Gyr

Ericsson has been selected by smart energy management solutions provider Landis+Gyr to provide smart meter reading and related field operations as a service for its utility customers in Finland.

The smart meter managed services deal strengthens Ericsson’s presence in the Finnish energy sector, the company said.

Utility industry, according to Charlotta Sund, head of Ericsson’s Region Northern Europe and Central Asia, is one of the most connected services in the region, so it offers huge opportunity for Ericsson. Almost all consumers have implemented smart meter in their houses.

Sund further said, “With our expertise in connectivity and managed services and our strategic focus on the energy sector, we can support Landis+Gyr and its smart meter customers in making the best out of the opportunities that connectivity brings.”

Landis+Gyr is a leading provider of smart meters in Finnish utility sector. The company has delivered more than one million smart meters in the region, it claims.

Under this agreement, Ericsson will provide Ericsson will provide smart meter reading as a service for more than 700,000 of these meters, starting from October 1, 2014.

To support the project, 13 Landis+Gyr employees based in Jyväskylä, Finland, will join Ericsson.

Ericsson has a long track record in delivering managed services, and a strong commitment to business development in the energy sector, said Ari Tolonen, managing director at Landis+Gyr Finland.

“Together we will be able to provide Landis+Gyr’s utility customers in Finland with an ever-evolving, future-proof services portfolio,” Tolonen added.
