Networking major Cisco’s marketshare in 10-Gigabit Ethernet port shipments fell to 30 percent in 1Q2011 as compared to 32 percent in 1Q2010, according to In-Stat.
HP Networking has 18 percent marketshare in 1Q2011, while D-Link increased its marketshare to 18 percent from 16 percent. Cisco small business retained its marketshare at 5 percent.
From 4Q10 to 1Q11, worldwide Ethernet port shipments fell 7 percent, while revenues decreased 12 percent. On a year-over-year basis, port shipments increased 2 percent while revenues were down 8 percent. A bright spot in the Ethernet switch market is the growth in the 10GigE space where year-over-year port shipments increased 21 percent, according to In-Stat.
From a market share perspective, Cisco continues to hold the top spot in Ethernet switching, although they’ve seen a small drop over the past year. HP Networking, which didn’t exist in its current form a year ago, comes in at number two, and D-LINK rounds out the top three,” said Brad Shaffer, analyst at In-Stat.
Europe fell 2 percent from 35.6 percent to 33.6 percent, North America also dropped, falling from 30.1 percent to 27.3 percent. From 4Q10 to 1Q11, regional market share shifted noticeably. The Asia Pacific region accounted for 31.7 percent of shipments, up from 30.7 percent the previous quarter.
The rest of world category experienced a large bump, mainly because of increased shipments to Latin America and now comprises about 7.5 percent of worldwide port shipments.Gigabit Ethernet port shipments fell 6.5 percent and revenues fell 15.6 percent.
