Asian mobile operator deploys customized version of Comptel Control and Charge

top Asian mobile operator has deployed a customized version of Comptel Control
and Charge.

Leveraging the product for its Online Charging Function
(OCF) capabilities, the operator wanted to provide low-cost, device-specific
SIM bundles that would allow it to engage a different subscriber segment, as
well as create upsell opportunities among existing customers who would pay
extra to get separate SIMs for their tablets.

Comptel’s bespoke device detection solution enables the
mobile operator to not only sell data plans at a reduced price to satisfy
customers, but also limit subscribers’ usage to specific tablets, so that SIM
cards will not be misused and affect its unlimited data plans.

The mobile operator has implemented a tiered alert system to
notify customers when it finds that the SIM cards have been used on
unauthorized devices like 3G modem dongles, and discontinue their data service
following a third warning.

The Asian mobile operator has been using Comptel Convergent
Mediation and Comptel Provisioning and Activation for a number of years.
Earlier the operator had deployed the products to help it deliver dual fixed
and mobile services to subscribers on its IP Multimedia Subsystem platform
(IMS).

Comptel Control and Charge is an integrated, modular
solution that brings together Comptel’s existing, proven solutions for policy
control and charging on a single platform. It enables communications service
providers to balance raising customer satisfaction, increasing the amount they
are willing to spend, and managing scarce resources and capacity.

Comptel delivered the project, which involved OCF
implementation and DIAMETER Gy integration, on time in less than 12 weeks and to
the operator’s specifications.

Mika Korpinen, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, Comptel,
said the mobile operator has reinforced its reputation as a pioneer of
innovation by offering substantial cost savings to customers, while reducing
SIM card misuse and bettering its own business performance.
