AMOLED Smartphone Display Shipments to Fall 7% in 2026 as Memory Prices and Demand Pressures Rise

AMOLED smartphone display shipments are set to decline sharply in 2026, reflecting rising component costs, weaker demand, and macroeconomic uncertainty, according to Omdia. AMOLED smartphone display shipments will drop to 778 million units in 2026, marking a 7 percent decline, according to the Omdia report.

A key driver behind this downturn in the global AMOLED smartphone display market is the surge in memory prices since the second half of 2025, which has significantly increased smartphone production costs. This trend is placing pressure on device pricing, particularly impacting Chinese smartphone vendors that rely on competitive pricing strategies and broad product portfolios. Many of these brands have already revised their 2026 shipment plans downward amid concerns that higher retail prices could weaken consumer demand.

In contrast, Apple is expected to strengthen its market position. With a stable semiconductor supply chain and higher margins, Apple is better equipped to absorb cost increases. The narrowing price gap between premium iPhones and competing devices is likely to support a more aggressive sales strategy in 2026.

Economic factors are weighing on the AMOLED display market. Geopolitical tensions, rising energy costs, and supply chain disruptions have increased expenses across the value chain. Higher petrochemical raw material prices, along with elevated logistics and transportation costs, are adding further pressure on manufacturers.

Segment-wise, the flexible AMOLED market is projected to decline for the first time in seven years, while rigid AMOLED shipments will fall for the second consecutive year, reflecting the ongoing transition toward flexible display technologies.

Brian Huh, Principal Analyst at Omdia, said weakening demand from Chinese smartphone brands will outweigh gains from Apple’s stronger sales push. However, softer demand could push Chinese AMOLED panel makers to adopt more aggressive pricing strategies to maintain fab utilization rates, potentially reshaping competitive dynamics in the display industry.
