Reliance Jio Studios Acquires 50.1% Stake in Sikhya Entertainment to Strengthen Global Content Creations

Reliance Strategic Business Ventures, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), has acquired a 50.1 percent equity stake in Sikhya Entertainment for ₹150 crore in cash.

The transaction, completed on 2 February 2026 through a combination of primary and secondary investments, marks a significant step in Jio Studios’ strategy to consolidate its leadership in media and entertainment sector in India.

The acquisition brings one of India’s most globally recognised and award-winning production houses under the Jio Studios umbrella. Sikhya Entertainment is known for creating culturally rooted stories that resonate with audiences worldwide, aligning closely with Jio Studios’ long-term vision of building enduring intellectual property and expanding India’s storytelling footprint on the global stage.

Jio Studios strengthens its content ecosystem

Jio Studios, the media and content arm of RIL, has emerged as a key force in India’s entertainment ecosystem by backing films and series with strong creative and commercial conviction. Over the past seven years, the studio has produced landmark titles such as Dhurandhar, Laapataa Ladies and the Stree franchise, connecting Indian stories with audiences across geographies.

With the majority stake acquisition in Sikhya Entertainment, Jio Studios aims to further scale its creator-led ecosystem and deepen collaborations with filmmakers who combine authenticity, innovation and global appeal.

Sikhya Entertainment’s global and national acclaim

Founded by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, Sikhya Entertainment has, over the past decade, redefined the potential of Indian storytelling on the world stage. It is the only Indian production house to have won both an Academy Award and multiple National Film Awards, highlighting its rare global and domestic impact.

Sikhya’s Academy Award wins include Period. End of Sentence. for Best Documentary Short Subject and The Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short Film. Its National Film Award-winning films include Masaan in Hindi, Soorarai Pottru in Tamil and Kathal in Hindi. The production house has also received widespread recognition across major Indian and international platforms for its multilingual slate, which includes The Lunchbox, Pagglait, Kathal and Kill.

A defining aspect of Sikhya’s identity has been its focus on discovering and nurturing new talent, supporting debut and early-career filmmakers, emerging writers and performance-driven storytelling, while also creating defining moments for some of India’s most celebrated actors.

Jio Studios is creating and owning films and series in Hindi and major Indian languages. In seven years, the studio has delivered more than 150 films and web series, with 55 Jio Studios titles collectively winning over 450 awards in India and internationally.
