Liberty Global has started deploying WiFi and telephony gateway targeting better in-home WiFi internet experience across its European operations.
The broadband provider said the gateway includes both a data modem and a WiFi router to enable broadband download speeds of up to 1 Gbps across its existing EuroDOCSIS 3.0 platform.
“Our WiFi and telephony gateway enables us to maximize the impact of our fiber networks across Europe by giving our customers a faster internet experience,” said Doron Hacmon, managing director, Products and Online Media Group, Liberty Global.
Liberty Global is offering the new WiFi and telephony gateway to Telenet customers in Belgium and UPC customers in Romania and will be providing to its operating companies in Europe in the coming months.
Liberty Global has developed the locally-branded broadband device in association with Arris and Compal and rolled out product across its European and Latin American markets. Software developed by Celeno is powering the broadband device to optimize the highest possible speeds over WiFi to multiple devices.
Liberty Global has also rolled out a network of six million public WiFi spots throughout its footprint in Europe. It aims to grow this number to more than 10 million WiFi access points in 2016.
The cable company has 27 million customers subscribing to 56 million television, broadband internet and telephony services at June 30, 2015. In addition, it has served five million mobile subscribers and offered WiFi service across six million access points.
