Elisa to deploy Nokia Lightspan MF solution to boost fiber network capacity

Elisa, a top telecommunications and digital services provider in Finland, will deploy Nokia’s Lightspan MF solution. The investment aims to boost Elisa’s fiber network capacity, enabling ultra-broadband services across Finland.

Elisa 5G business

Elisa becomes the first service provider in Europe to trial 25G, 50G, and 100G Passive Optical Network (PON) services on a live fiber network. This trial demonstrates how operators can enhance broadband speed and capacity on existing infrastructure. Details on investment plans are not available.

Nokia’s Lightspan platform supports the full range of next-generation PON technologies, including 10G, 25G, 50G, and 100G, making it the only vendor with such comprehensive support. Elisa’s deployment uses the Altiplano platform, helping automate and scale network management and reliability.

With Nokia’s technology, Elisa’s network is well-prepared to meet future bandwidth demands, particularly as AI-driven data traffic in Western Europe is expected to reach 91 exabytes per month by 2030, as per Nokia’s Bell Labs.

Sami Rajamäki, Elisa’s VP of Network Services, emphasized the game-changing potential of ultra-high-speed connectivity for applications like online gaming and industrial uses.

Nokia’s Matthieu Bourguignon highlighted the increasing demand for robust broadband in Europe, underscoring Nokia’s role in enabling reliable and scalable fiber network solutions.
