BT plans to cut 6,000 jobs to save £500 million

UK’s telecom operator BT is set to reveal plans to cut up to 6,000 jobs as part of the strategy to save £500 million over the next three years, The Financial Times reported.

The telephone communication company has around 80,000 employees in the U.K. alone. It is possible that these job cuts may affect employees at home as well as internationally. The new development will be announced on Thursday, when BT reveals its financial result for the last financial year.

It would be the largest round of job cuts in almost a decade. BT, which acquired EE, already cut 30,000 jobs in 2008 and 2009 due to problems with the company’s international business.
