Telecom Lead India: Global telecom body GSM Association (GSMA) will set up its India office in New Delhi shortly. Sanjay Kapoor, chairman
of COAI, CEO of Bharti Group and member of GSMA Board, will announce the
decision to open India office on April 3.
The decision to set up office in India reflects the
country’s telecom growth.

Beside London (head quarter), GSMA has offices in the U.S.,
Hong Kong, Barcelona, Belgium and Santiago.
Spanning more than 220 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800
of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the
broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies,
equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment
organizations.
At the GSMA press meet in Delhi on April 3, Anne Bouverot,
director general and member of the Board,GSMA; Tom Phillips, chief government
and regulatory affairs officer, GSMA; SandeepKaranwal, spectrum policy
director, India, GSMA and Nitin Sapra, spectrum policy advisor, GSMA will also
be present.
The India office is significant for the telecom sector. India’s
telecom revenue increased at a CAGR of 18.1 percent during 2006-10, according
to Research and Markets.
The dynamic growth the country witnessed over the past
several years is mainly attributed to the robust telecom infrastructure,
various proactive initiatives taken by the industry and the Government, along
with liberal policies and a fair regulatory framework that helps offer telecom
services at affordable prices.
