Huawei, Qualcomm complete LTE CAT11 terminal tests

Huawei and Qualcomm have completed tests using LTE CAT11 terminals that can reach a downlink peak data rate of up to 600 Mbit/s.

Huawei and Qualcomm conducted the tests based on Huawei SingleRAN equipment and Qualcomm Snapdragon LTE modem. This terminal supports a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 60 MHz and a modulation scheme as high as 256QAM. These two technologies significantly increase downlink rate.

256QAM, an important contributor to increased peak data rates, significantly improves the mobile broadband user experience in areas covered by strong signals. The advancement of this technology will benefit an increasing number of 256QAM terminals.

LG Uplus in South Korea, EE in the UK, and HKT in Hong Kong, among other telecoms, launched CA on their networks that can improve spectral efficiency for telecom operators and provides a better user experience.

In February, Huawei released 3CC CA to 55 MHz based on LTE CAT9 terminals with EE in London. In April, Huawei released 3CC CA to 60 MHz based on LTE CAT9 terminals with HKT in Hong Kong.

David Wang, president, Wireless Network Product Line, Huawei, said: “The tests represent another milestone in the developing commercialization of LTE-A and 256QAM. It shows that terminals are capable of both 3CC CA and 256QAM.”
