Alcatel-Lucent firm Bell Labs to open new office in Silicon Valley

Alcatel-Lucent firm Bell Labs will open a new office in Silicon Valley to conduct research aimed at networks to deliver new cloud-based applications and services.

The new Bell Labs facility to be co-located with Alcatel-Lucent’s Nuage Networks and IP routing businesses will work on exploring new approaches to cloud and software defined networking.

The third new Bell Labs research facility to open in Silicon Valley will focus on cloud and SDN (software defined networks).

In a statement, Alcatel-Lucent said that the Silicon Valley center will be the third Bell Labs antenna office to open this year – after Cambridge video facility in the U.K. in July and Bell Labs virtualization research facility in Israel in May.

Bell Labs Consulting SDN / NFV group leader Sanjay Kamat will be leading the research initiative.

Earlier, Kamat was responsible for strategy and operations of the Bell Labs Advisory Services practice focused on techno-economic issues related to emerging technologies.
