Telenor Norway selects TCS to modernize fixed telecom network

Telecom operator Telenor Norway today said it has selected Indian IT services vendor Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to modernize the fixed network operations.

The goal is to improve customer experience through reduced complexity and faster deliveries, said Telenor.

The selection of TCS is part of Telenor Norway’s initiative to modernize and simplify products, processes and related IT systems in the fixed area.

“This is one of the largest change programs in recent history for Telenor Norway. Our aim is to provide customers with better experiences, with improved quality and faster deliveries, while reducing costs,” says Berit Svendsen, CEO of Telenor Norway.

Telenor invests over 4 billion NOK in infrastructure and services in Norway.

Telenor Capex and Q1 revenue

The modernization is in the wake of reduced customer base for traditional fixed line services. Telenor says though fixed line customer base is dwindling the operation costs do not fall at the same rate. This indicates that there is pressure on monetization of fixed lines.

Telenor’s total Capex during Q1 2014 was NOK 6,595 million.

On May 7, 2014, Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and CEO of Telenor Group, said: “In Norway, our growth and efficiency initiatives continue to be a top priority. We see rising demand for larger data packages, which resulted in improved mobile revenue growth of more than 3 percent in the quarter.”

“Competitive pressure and declining revenues from traditional fixed telephony require us to focus on streamlining our operations and investments. At the same time, Telenor is implementing a major technology shift with an annual investment of more than NOK 4 billion,” Baksaas added.
