Day 2 of MWC Barcelona 2026 delivered another high-voltage mix of startup ambition, robotics innovation and thought-provoking debates on digital wellbeing and the future of the web. From the neon-lit halls of 4YFN to headline sessions featuring global tech thinkers and celebrities, Tuesday’s agenda reinforced MWC’s role as the epicentre of next-generation connectivity and innovation.

4YFN 2026: Where Startups Pitch for Unicorn Status
Halls 8.0 and 8.1 were buzzing as 4YFN brought together ambitious founders, investors and disruptive ideas from around the world. The startup platform showcased innovations ranging from haptic gaming technology and AI-powered jewellery design to smart indoor gardening apps and immersive VR jetpack experiences.
The spotlight now turns to the 4YFN Awards Finale, set for Wednesday at 17:00 on the Banco Sabadell Stage. Five finalists will pitch live before a panel of leading investors in one of the week’s most anticipated competitions, where underdogs aim to secure funding, visibility and industry validation.
Robotics Dominate the MWC 2026 Showfloor
Robots were impossible to miss across the exhibition halls, underlining the convergence of AI, automation and 5G connectivity.
At China Mobile’s booth in Hall 3, a robot restaurant served tea and snacks, autonomously retrieving items from refrigerated units after orders were placed via tablet.
Nearby, SK Telecom recreated a miniature smart factory floor, allowing attendees to remotely operate forklifts over advanced 5G networks, demonstrating industrial automation use cases.
In Hall 6, AGIBOT’s X2 humanoid robot drew crowds with tai chi routines, champagne service and choreographed dance moves.
One of the most impactful demonstrations came from a collaboration between GSMA Foundry and National University Health System. Their AI-powered robotic nurse companion autonomously navigates hospital wards, delivers medication and monitors patients using integrated sensors, showcasing how robotics and 5G can transform healthcare delivery.
Kate Darling Reframes the Robotics Debate
Robotics ethicist and author Kate Darling challenged conventional thinking about humanoid machines. Rather than viewing robots through a science fiction lens, she suggested framing their development more like animal husbandry.
Referencing her book The New Breed, Darling argued that robots are most effective when designed to complement human capabilities, not replicate them. She highlighted simple yet powerful use cases, such as robotic vacuum cleaners, that succeed by performing specific tasks reliably instead of attempting full human imitation.
Her remarks sparked debate on realistic expectations for AI-driven robotics and the importance of designing machines that enhance, rather than replace, human skills.
Aaron Paul and Kaiwei Tang on Digital Wellbeing
A standout keynote on digital addiction featured actor Aaron Paul and Kaiwei Tang, CEO and Co-Founder of Light.
Tang delivered one of the day’s most quoted lines: “We can’t stand five seconds of boredom anymore. And boredom is great. Boredom is where creativity comes out.”
The session explored society’s strained relationship with smartphones and attention-driven business models. While neither speaker positioned themselves as anti-technology, both stressed the importance of intentional tech use and reclaiming control over personal attention in a hyperconnected world.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee on the Future of the Web
At Talent Arena, internet pioneer Tim Berners-Lee reflected on the origins and evolution of the web. The inventor of the World Wide Web discussed his early work at CERN in 1989 and the long-term implications of artificial general intelligence.
Berners-Lee also highlighted his decentralisation initiative Solid, which aims to give users greater control over their personal data and counterbalance profit-driven platform models. He praised recent efforts to introduce stricter social media regulations and encouraged audiences to diversify their networks to avoid algorithm-driven echo chambers.
MWC 2026 Momentum Builds
Day 2 of MWC Barcelona 2026 reinforced several dominant themes shaping the telecom and technology sectors: AI-driven automation, real-world robotics applications, startup innovation, digital wellbeing, and a renewed push to reshape the web’s governance model.
With the 4YFN Awards Finale and more keynote sessions still to come, momentum continues to build as MWC 2026 defines the next chapter of global connectivity and intelligent digital infrastructure.
