LG Electronics (LG) has announced the re-election of Dr. Lee Ki-dong, an assistant vice president at LG USA’s Research and Standards Lab, as the chairperson of the Applications Working Group within the Next G Alliance.
Over 100 companies from diverse sectors, including major North American mobile carriers, have joined the alliance to expedite the NGA Lifecycle to 6G. This lifecycle encompasses research, development and manufacturing, standards leadership, market readiness, and realization.
LG’s re-election of Lee Ki-dong holds great significance for the company, highlighting its leadership role in the pursuit of 6G advancement. The emergence of 6G technology is poised to revolutionize numerous industries such as mobility, the metaverse, smart cities, and manufacturing.
In a significant milestone, LG conducted tests on the transmission and reception of 6G THz data over a distance of 320 meters outdoors at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) in Berlin, Germany, last year. Additionally, in 2019, LG collaborated with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to establish the LG-KAIST 6G Research Center.
Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon, CTO and executive vice president of LG Electronics, expressed the transformative potential of 6G technology, stating that it will serve as a game changer, fostering innovation across various emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, the metaverse, robotics, and urban air mobility.
