Performance data shows that 5G standalone technology improves mobile internet experience with smoother, faster, and more reliable service, reaching speeds up to 300Mbps.

Small cells, unlike traditional towers, are placed on street furniture in areas with high data demand, adding capacity and coverage without large infrastructure.

Virgin Media O2’s 5G standalone network, launched earlier this year, now spans over 300 towns and cities, offering a pure 5G experience at no extra cost. Virgin Media O2’s 5G outdoor coverage has reached 68 percent of the UK population.

Virgin Media O2 has a partnership with Ontix and Alpha Wireless to leverage MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, boosting performance for customers in Birmingham’s busiest areas.

Virgin Media O2 invests £2 million daily in network upgrades, addressing the 26 percent rise in data usage and future-proofing its services.

The investment is expected to benefit Birmingham’s businesses and residents, particularly in active areas like Broad Street and Fleet Street, supporting the region’s connectivity needs.

Jeanie York, CTO of Virgin Media O2, and Chris Hudson, Director of West Midlands 5G, highlight the strategic importance of reliable, fast mobile connectivity in supporting both local businesses and the community.
