Magyar Telekom testing 5G network with several suppliers

Magyar Telekom is testing high-speed 5G mobile network technology with several suppliers, including China’s Huawei.
Magyar TelekomMagyar Telekom, the Deutsche Telekom unit, said it had not entered into an agreement with the Chinese firm to build up its entire local network.

Hungarian telecoms regulator NMHH had registered Magyar Telekom as a participant in a tender for 5G spectrum launched in June, the Deutsche Telekom unit said.

Magyar Telekom said the regulator had scrapped the previously announced bidding dates and has not published new dates yet, Reuters reported.

Magyar Telekom has completed several tests with 5G technology.

Magyar Telekom in Oct 2017 established a 5G connection in Hungary, under laboratory circumstances, with Ericsson. Magyar Telekom achieved Internet download speed of 22 Gbps. The demo ran on the 15 GHz frequency band and used 800 MHz bandwidth.

Magyar Telekom in July 2018 demonstrated a 5G network running under real-life conditions. The test network used the 3.7 GHz frequency band.
