Global 5G deployment continues to gain momentum as 392 operators have launched commercial 5G networks worldwide, marking a 14 percent increase from March 2025. These deployments now account for 44 percent of total LTE and 5G networks, underlining the steady transition toward next-generation connectivity, GSA said.

Investment activity remains strong, with 643 operators currently investing in 5G, though growth has moderated to 3 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, 52 operators are planning to introduce 5G services, with a significant concentration in Sub-Saharan Africa, where legacy networks still dominate. The region represents 15 percent of the global pipeline for future 5G launches, GSA report said.
Spectrum allocation continues to support expansion, as 11 5G auctions were completed globally over the past year at an average price of $663.4 million. On the device ecosystem front, the number of announced 5G devices has reached 4,256, reflecting a 24 percent annual increase, compared to a total of 29,024 LTE devices.
The evolution toward advanced network capabilities is also evident. A total of 95 operators have launched 5G Standalone services, representing a 42 percent increase since the first quarter of 2025. In parallel, 35 operators are investing in 5G-Advanced technologies, up 71 percent year-on-year, with 11 already launching related services.
Fixed wireless access is emerging as a key use case, with 394 operators offering 5G-based fixed wireless services and another 29 investing in the technology, reflecting a 59 percent increase since June 2025.
Enterprise adoption of private networks is accelerating, particularly in the manufacturing sector, which leads with 374 deployments. The education and academic research sector follows with 169 deployments, highlighting growing demand for dedicated connectivity solutions.
Satellite integration is also gaining traction, with 97 operators investing in satellite-to-cellphone connectivity and 8 compatible chipsets already available, pointing to future expansion in hybrid network coverage.
Overall, the global 5G ecosystem is expanding across infrastructure, devices, and enterprise applications, supported by sustained investments and increasing adoption of advanced technologies.
