Boost Mobile launches 5G 4x downlink and 2x uplink carrier aggregation

Dish Network said Boost Mobile Network has become the world’s first to launch simultaneous four-carrier aggregation downlink and two-carrier aggregation uplink.

This advancement significantly enhances data speeds and capacity for customers using compatible 5G smartphones across the Boost Mobile Network, providing a superior experience. Boost Mobile Network is building a cloud-native Open RAN network to run its business cost-effectively.

5G technology offers faster speeds and lower latency compared to previous wireless generations like 3G and 4G LTE. Investment in carrier aggregation further amplifies these benefits, enabling the network to handle more data at higher speeds. This translates into faster data upload and download speed on 5G network for customers.

The primary beneficiaries of this upgrade are Boost customers nationwide who own compatible devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 family. Recent tests have shown peak speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps, demonstrating the capability of this technology.

“As the first network operator to commercially launch simultaneous 2x uplink and 4x downlink carrier aggregation, Boost continues to push the boundaries of network technology,” stated Eben Albertyn, EVP and Chief Technology Officer of Boost Mobile Network.

IBM, Oracle, Mavenir, among others, are working with Boost Mobile Network to run the 5G network in the United States. Mavenir is providing cloud-native Open RAN software for its next-generation network.

Carrier aggregation allows Boost to merge more spectrum channels than ever before, combining 100 MHz of spectrum across four channels into a substantial superhighway for data. This results in significantly faster data transmission rates. Initially, customers with devices from the Samsung Galaxy S24 family will experience these enhancements, with more devices expected to follow suit.

This launch follows a series of network milestones for Boost Mobile. Recently, the network has been noted for offering 5G Voice or VoNR (Voice over New Radio) to over 200 million Americans, marking the first and largest commercial deployment of this technology. Additionally, Boost’s 5G broadband service now reaches over 240 million Americans.

For customers eager to experience the enhanced data speeds and performance of the Boost Mobile Network’s 4CC uplink and 2CC downlink technology, compatible devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 are available at BoostMobile.com or BoostInfinite.com.
