Vodafone introduces highest mobile Internet speeds across Malta

Telecom Lead Europe: Vodafone has introduced the
highest mobile internet speeds across Malta. The new 21.6Mbps HSPA capability
has made live across all of Vodafone’s coverage area. The new capability will
enable customers with the latest devices to enjoy a significant improvement in
speeds on the Vodafone network.

The high speed mobile internet launch confirms Vodafone
has the fastest commercially available speeds on 3G technology on the island

The operator further expects to roll out 42Mbps
capability across key areas and high traffic sites on the Vodafone network.
This technology can deliver average download speeds approximately three
times faster than that experienced today, and a performance in ideal conditions
to rival the best-fixed technologies.

We already have the new 21.6 megabits per second (Mbps)
High Speed Packet Access capability live across all of our coverage area. This
is another first for us at Vodafone after having been the first operator to
deploy 14.4Mbps across our network back in April 2010,” said Balesh Sharma,
chief executive officer, Vodafone Malta.

With the new 21.6Mbps upgrade it is expected that average
download speeds will be around one-and-a-half times faster than the current
experience using 14.4Mbps.

The introduction of new capabilities is part of an
investment program of 55 million pound over five years, reflecting confidence
in the future.

A significant portion of this investment, 11 million
pound, is currently being invested in Vodafone’s Customer Relationship
Management systems.

Communications Minister of Malta Austin Gatt, said
investment such as Vodafone’s plays a crucial role in the country’s ambitions
to become a world leader in areas such as communications and financial
services, and is also extremely important for the tourism industry to flourish.
As for job creation, Dr Gatt said several industries and sectors depend on this
kind of investment.
