Vodafone Idea leads in download speed beating Airtel

Vodafone Idea has emerged as the leader across key parameters such as download speed, upload speed and video experience, according to OpenSignal.
Airtel was the winner in video streaming, voice app experience and download speeds, and Reliance Jio Infocomm in 4G availability and coverage during a three-month period between December 1, 2019 and February 28, 2020, according to a telecom report by OpenSignal released on April 7.

OpenSignal’s April 2020 report analysed data speed and experience across 48 cities versus 42 in the previous edition. Vodafone Idea has shown highest improvement in city ranks on various parameters, as compared to any other operator in India.

Vodafone’s customers have experienced 4G download speed of 10.8 Mbps, gaining 52.1 percent improvement. Idea customers have experienced 10.3 Mbps download speed on its 4G network, an improvement of 56.1 percent.

Vodafone Idea ranks No. 1 in download speeds across 32 major cities including metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and others. The operator is a close second in 12 other cities.

Vodafone Idea also took the number one position in terms of upload speeds across 29 out of 48 cities.

Vodafone Idea recorded highest upload speed in major cities and metros including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh etc. Vodafone Idea has been the consistent leader in upload speed as per test reports by other major testing agencies including TRAI MySpeed.

Vodafone Idea took the top position in video experience with Vodafone showing 30 percent improvement and Idea 21.4 percent. Vodafone Idea leads in video experience in 24 out of the 48 cities benchmarked in this study and ranked No. 2 in 16 cities.

Vodafone Idea ranks #1 in in 4G voice app experience as well.

ICICI Securities estimates that Vodafone Idea will loss 15 million subscribers in the fourth quarter of financial year 2020. Average revenue per user (ARPU) for Vodafone Idea will grow 12 percent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 122. Vodafone Idea is expected to add 5 million 4G subscribers during the March quarter.
