Nokia and Ooredoo Qatar Launch MEA’s First Private Wireless Network for Energy Sector

Nokia and Ooredoo Qatar have achieved a milestone by introducing the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region’s inaugural private wireless network tailored for the energy sector. This initiative promises dedicated voice and customer data services, particularly in the most challenging and remote locations.
The landmark project, marking a first in the region, is designed to cater to the needs of the energy sector. It aims to provide dedicated voice and data connectivity across offshore and onshore facilities, ensuring operations even in the most demanding environments.

With an initial capacity set to accommodate 20,000 subscribers for the offshore grid, this private wireless network aims to empower digitalization and automation, fostering heightened efficiency and productivity.

Nokia’s contribution to this groundbreaking endeavor involves the supply of cutting-edge products optimized to deliver resilient, mission-critical connectivity. The company will also offer deployment and care services, supported by resident engineers providing expert assistance to maintain optimal network performance.

The deployed solution boasts a native offshore system seamlessly integrated with existing commercial cores. This integration facilitates enhanced operational efficiency, reducing interruptions from onshore connectivity. Moreover, the network’s architecture enables efficient management of interoperability and smooth communication between offshore and onshore locations, effectively addressing latency concerns through localized data services to improve process efficiency.
