Huawei assists Vodafone to launch cloud-based VoLTE in Italy

Telecom network vendor Huawei has assisted Vodafone to launch the world’s first cloud-based VoLTE commercial network in Italy.

Huawei has provided cloud-based IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) core applications and cloud-based EMS (Element Management System) together with MANO-VNFM (Management and Orchestration-Virtualized Network Function Management).

As part of the deal, Huawei has deployed the cloud-based IMS core network and completed E2E (End to End) integrations for commercial deployment in a multi-vendor environment.

Huawei has ALSO implemented IMS core vertical integration as well as traditional horizontal service integration.

Meanwhile, the 2015 IHS Infonetics 4G and 5G Strategies and Vendor Leadership: Global Service Provider Survey said half of respondents participating in the study say they have already deployed LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) in their LTE networks.

Stephane Teral, research director for mobile infrastructure and carrier economics at IHS, said that the 4G experience is far from consistent and is falling short of expectations.

The telecom analysis report said that commercial voice over LTE (VoLTE) service is taking off slowly and ramping this year and next.

4G network functions virtualization (NFV) migration won’t happen any time soon because the bulk of LTE networks are brand new and, therefore, mobile operators are not ready to undertake migration that soon.

Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia (in alphabetical order) are perceived by survey respondents as the top LTE equipment manufacturers.
