Deutsche Telekom reveals target for base stations in Germany

Deutsche Telekom has set up 400 plus new mobile stations in Germany in the third quarter of 2018 to improve customer experience.
Deutsche Telekom modernized the network and filled gaps as it has integrated nearly 9,000 new services (GSM, UMTS, and LTE) in the network. The additional investment will support more than 325,000 additional customers to access Deutsche Telekom’s LTE network in Germany.

“Focusing solely on fixed-network expansion when it comes to the gigabit society is a short-sighted approach,” says Walter Goldenits, chief technology officer at Telekom Deutschland.

Deutsche Telekom said it will raise the number of mobile base stations in Germany from 27,000 in 2017 to 36,000 in 2021. The LTE expansion will help Deutsche Telekom fill coverage gaps in mobile communications and increase bandwidths. Population coverage is set to increase to 98 percent by 2019.

This expansion is an important component for the future 5G network. 5G combines fixed-network and mobile communications.
