Boosting 4G of Airtel and Reliance Jio, Nokia Siemens achieves 56 Mbps upload throughput

Boosting Indian 4G operators’ — Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm — hopes to increase network speed, Nokia Siemens Networks achieved 56 Mbps peak upload throughput in a TD-LTE network.

Better speed attracts more customers to 4G networks. Bharti Airtel, the #1 telecom operator in India, has 4G services in 4 circles in India, while Reliance Jio Infocomm, a part of Reliance Industries, will offer LTE early next year in select circles.

On Monday, Bharti Airtel, which does not talk about guaranteed 4G speed available to its customers, announced 31 percent reduction in the prices of its services.

At present, Airtel works with Nokia Siemens for its 4G network roll out in Pune. Reliance Jio Infocomm, which got the BWA spectrum in 2010, is yet to announce its partners.

Nokia Siemens is celebrating 15 year commitment to TD-LTE. The uplink trial was not in India, but China got the opportunity.

Using its commercial 4G base station with multiple antenna technology and a single 20 MHz carrier, Nokia Siemens Networks said the latest TD-LTE uplink throughput record was set in a test network in Hangzhou, China.

To achieve this uplink milestone, Nokia Siemens Networks used its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, which is commercially available and has been selected by many operators worldwide for their 4G networks.

Single User Multiple Input Multiple Output (SU-MIMO) technology, which was applied for the uplink traffic, was one of the keys to reaching the record-breaking throughput speed using a single carrier.

Nokia Siemens Networks on Tuesday said it holds uplink records for both SU-MIMO and Multi User-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) technologies.

Last year, the company set two world first records for uplink throughput in TD-LTE networks, the latter of which resulted in a throughput speed beyond TD-LTE-Advanced specifications using multiple carriers. In both cases, Nokia Siemens Networks used its commercial Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station.
