Airtel takes on Vodafone with new 4G campaign

Telecom network operator Bharti Airtel announced its new marketing campaign around its 4G services.

Vodafone on Monday unveiled its 4G marketing campaign. Reliance Jio Infocomm will be launching its 4G services in the second half of 2016, said RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani recently.

Bharti Airtel says Sasha Chhetri is appearing in the 4G marketing campaign that goes on air today during the India New Zealand match of the ICC World T-20 Cup. Taproot Advertising has conceived the new 4G marketing campaign in India for Bharti.

Airtel 4G is available in around 400 towns in India. Airtel has the largest 4G network in the country with unmatched coverage.

Rajiv Mathrani, chief brand officer of Bharti Airtel, said: “Bharti Airtel’s 4G campaigns redefined communication around high speed mobile data services and the brand has powerfully surged ahead.”

Vodafone SuperNet

On Monday, Vodafone India unveiled a 4G marketing campaign on Vodafone SuperNet, a seamless network experience.

Ogilvy & Mather has conceptualized the mobile Internet campaign for Vodafone. Vodafone India is bringing back Cheeka – the pug to promote Vodafone SuperNet.

Sandeep Kataria, director- Consumer, Vodafone India, said: “Network plays a crucial role in enhancing customer experience.”

Vodafone, which has more than 194 million customers across the country, has set up over 30,000 sites (2G/3G/4G) to expand and upgrade its coverage of both voice and data.

Vodafone 4G network on 1800 MHz band is available in 5 circles of Kerala, Karnataka, Mumbai, Delhi & NCR and Kolkata.

During the current fiscal, Vodafone 3G coverage expanded to 6 new circles of Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, UP West and Assam & North East. Vodafone will be expanding own 3G footprint to 16 circles.

Vodafone says it upgraded entire radio network to all-IP technology, ready even for 5G mobile services.

Vodafone India has fiber backhaul (160,000 kms of fiber till date) in most of its sites allowing mobile internet to flow without any blockage.

The company is using Cisco’s SON (Self Optimizing Network) technology to deliver superior mobile experience, improved voice call quality and reduced dropped calls.

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio is expected to bring its 4G services during the second half of 2016.

India Ratings revised the India telecom sector outlook for FY 2017 to stable-to-negative from stable. The launch of RJio will lead to data revenues remaining stagnant for the existing players. Data realizations for a megabyte are likely to correct by 30-40 percent.

Crisil has given a negative outlook on the sector.

India Ratings said it expects a decline in voice revenues and moderation in average revenue per user (ARPU) in the next fiscal. Spectrum is set to drive consolidation. The recent guidelines allowing spectrum sharing and trading transactions will be a positive move to enable smaller players to monetize their assets and allow bigger players to enhance their spectrum holdings.
